I started out as a helper for a small plumbing outfit, then went through Southern Maine Community College's plumbing and heating program while still working under my mentor, Russell. I stayed on with Russell for three more years after graduating — then spent six years as a pipefitter at Bath Iron Works, testing piping systems on naval destroyers.
Nights and weekends during that stretch went toward logging the hours for my Master Plumber license. Once I had it, I went fully self-employed — not to maximize revenue, but for the flexibility to actually be around for my family.
Everyone expects a doctor to make six figures, but not everyone knows you can make that in the trades without massive student loan debt. That's a big part of why I show my work online.
My wife and daughter are the reason I do all of this. I set firm boundaries on my hours and take real time off, because the point of running MPS was never to work myself into the ground — it was to build something that gives my family time back. Off the clock, I'm usually camping in the summer or snowmobiling in the winter (my goal: the Great Gaspe Snowmobile Tour). On the job, that same "do it right, keep it honest" approach is exactly what 50,000+ people watch me do across Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
